— Copyrights —
Copyright refers to original works of “authorship” and is more complex in its form, use and protections. Artistic works are copyrightable and normally involve works of literature, film, music, or design. Like a trademark, federal protection is not necessary, but highly recommended. Registering a copyrighted work takes place through the Library of Congress. For more information on copyright, see www.copyright.gov.
Copyright claims are the source of hotly contested litigation. A single copyrighted work can be worth millions of dollars and the penalties for infringement can, likewise, run into the millions. Our firm has represented film makers, song writers, graphic artists, photographers, and domain name owners in law suits over ownership of copyright.
